Palmer’s design company, with Ed Seay and later Thad Layton, built several hundred courses from the 1970s onward, most of them resort or community golf and all of them made to be fun for the golfer who plays once a week. Bay Hill, his own club, is the exception: a tournament course he tightened every year he owned it.
