Jack Nicklaus

The greatest player of his era became, from Muirfield Village in 1974, one of the most active designers in the world. Early Nicklaus asked for the high fade he played himself; the later work is broader and more forgiving, with strong strategic bunkering and a signature emphasis on the approach. Expect big, well-defended greens and a course that rewards the golfer who plans backwards from the flag.
