Keeper of the green at St Andrews, four-time Open champion and the first golf architect in anything like the modern sense. Morris laid out Muirfield, Carnoustie, Prestwick, Lahinch, Royal Dornoch and the New Course at St Andrews. His courses were routed by walking the ground and kept by hand; the best of them are still the standard.
